# HackGreenville Map

2022

[Project site](https://github.com/hackgvl/open-map-data-multi-layers-demo)

I joined the awesome HackGreenville community in 2020 (gosh, it's been so long now) and it's really been so amazing to be part of such a vibrant local tech community. [Jim Ciallela](https://www.linkedin.com/in/jimciallella/) and many others had been tirelessly maintaining searchable and queryable data about community resources in the Upstate for years before I joined, but I noticed that most of that incredibly valuable data had been siloed on the official HackGreenville website, and not easily accessible in a single user-friendly place.

While a similar project to display this information had created in the past as a code school project, it hadn't been updated in a long while, used outdated & hardcoded data, and would reset on a page refresh. To solve these issues, I created a new Vue 3 application from scratch that would fetch all the latest information from the HackGreenville API on-demand, and was bookmarkable, so that you could easily visit the link to view the exact location with the same selected map layers at any time!

Over the years, great contributors like the amazing [Matthew Thornton](https://www.linkedin.com/in/matthew-t-965703162/) have helped out to add really handy features like contributing links and contributor credits, as well as really making it look fantastic! If you'd like to visit the map to see for yourself, please visit this link here: [https://hackgvl.github.io/open-map-data-multi-layers-demo/](https://hackgvl.github.io/open-map-data-multi-layers-demo/)
