# Simply Binary AI Chatbot

We wanted to build the SB AI Chatbot in order to provide a flexible and customizable AI chatbot that could be embedded in multiple sites. So far, I've fully automated deployment using Github Pages for frontend hosting and [Fly.io](https://fly.io) for backend hosting to take advantage of Github Pages' free automated hosting and Fly's spin-to-zero VM technology to create a lightweight but still powerful deployment. I've ensured that the chatbot is fully responsive, as well as converted the app to initialize within the shadow DOM in order to allow the chatbot to be embedded into any site without affecting the existing page styles, and vice versa.

In addition, I created a new customer portal from scratch using Ruby on Rails in order to allow customers (and ourselves) to configure the AI chatbot! I had a fun time jumping into Rails 8 and the wider Rails ecosystem, and I could definitely see where Elixir's Phoenix was inspired by Ruby on Rails. In addition, in a testament to the productivity of Rails and the power of AWS offerings, I was able to add document uploading, OCR parsing, embeddings generation, vector search, and RAG integration into the chatbot in only one day!
